Based on the following prompt from last year's Language Arts PAT exam, please write a proficient to excellent essay:
Write an essay about the importance of striving to achieve personal goals. You may write about yourself or other people, real or fictional. You may set your writing in the past, present, or future.
The good copy of your assignment is due Wednesday, August 29th
Following the PAT rubric found at this link your essay should focus on the following areas:
- Content:
- insightful exploration of the topic, establishes a clear purpose, strong supporting details, and brings in your own unique voice
- Organization:
- essay is focussed, coherent, provides strong connections between ideas, and ends with a summative conclusion
- Sentence structure:
- sentence structure is effectively and consistently controlled, sentence type and length are consistently effective and varied, sentence beginnings are consistently varied
- Vocabulary:
- words and expressions are used accurately, effectively, and the essay includes a clear voice or tone unique to the author
- Conventions:
- the quality of the writing is enhanced because it is largely error free
In order to prepare you to succeed at this task we will complete a number of mini in class exercises to improve your writing in each of these five areas.
